What is IMA File Extension? (Floppy Disk Image File Format)

IMA also named as image file format for Disk Images or Virtual Hard Disk(VHD). IMA is also used for copy and storage of data in image formats in these disks. This File format stores all information in form of binary data related to what is present inside the disk not including headers and metadata. IMA also referred to store data in Floppy Disks(1.44 MB, 3.5''). Sometimes it requires a hardware to detect this file.

The IMA File format belongs to Image files. It is an Electronic File Format.

The location of IMA file is use defined. As a default, it is created within an application where images are stored in windows.

Although there is the specific method in Linux platform to find a location of .ima file.

  • # mkdir /mnt/floppy
  • # /sbin/losetup /dev/loop0 ./TheDiskImage.IMA
  • # mount -t vfat /dev/loop0 /mnt/floppy

IMA File can be open directory using following software
