What is .VDI File Extension?

The VDI File format is a Disk Image File that is used to store data inside VM VirtualBox. VM VirtualBox moved from Innotek to Sun Microsystems and then to Oracle. It stores all data accessed by the virtual machine and stores it in .vdi files.

This file belongs to binary type disk image files

The .vdi files are supported by VM VirtualBox

Innotek > Sun Microsystems > Oracle

  • For Windows
    • Default: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\VirtualBox VMs
    • Common: C:\Users\[username]\VirtualBox VMs\[vm group]\[vm name]
  • For Mac
    • $HOME/Library/VirtualBox/HardDisks/

The VDI file can be opened using Oracle VM virtual box. This application creates, open and used to view .vdi extensions.
