The XLW file extension is related to Microsoft Excel application (2007/2010) for Workspace files. This file comprises of the screen locations of a single or multiple workbooks along with the references to each workbook separately. These files can be used to restore complete layout while working on several workbooks.
The actual Excel workbook data will not be present in XLW file; only the layout will be available. For opening the file the source workbook must be available with user to which the .xlw references.
