Different Methods to Convert Mac OLM to PST

Microsoft Outlook is Personal information Manager which stores all the data of user accounts like mails, calendars, tasks, journals etc. It makes the e-communication easy for the users. Microsoft designed Outlooks for both Operating system Mac and Windows. The Outlook for both the OS is quite similar but they store their data in different file formats due to which Mac Outlook 2011 data is not directly accessible outside the Mac environment. The file extension supported by Mac Outlook is OLM and Windows Outlook is PST. If user want to access their Mac OLM file in Windows Outlook then they need to convert their Outlook 2011 file in PST format.

Reasons to Convert OLM to PST
  • In Outlook 2011 when user adds new signature to replace the another signature, then it adds new signature to the list instead of replacing the old one.
  • Database account of Outlook 2011 for Mac is not able to identify external applications such as Virex or Launch bar that index the content on hard drive. This arise due to incapability of Outlook and to overcome such issues users are required to exclude certain directories from Outlook account.
  • Masters category list of Exchange Server cannot be synchronized with Outlook 2011. If users are required doing so they need to delete or exclude unwanted directories from the list.
  • If Microsoft user data folder or any sub folders is renamed then blank identity is created for that particular folder
  • Outlook for Mac does not allow users to manage the numbering sequence as per users choice.
OLM to PST Conversion Techniques

Now in next section the solution to convert Mac Outlook OLM file to Windows Outlook PST file will be discussed to promote users with ability to access Mac data in Windows OS. Mac Outlook 2011 stores all mailbox data in an archive file therefore if user need to convert mail database in PST format then users need to export archive file data in OLM file.

  • First Setup an IMAP Account, Create user account for your email client.
  • Now find out the IMAP settings and fill the necessary details



  • Use IMAP account to move Outlook data to iCloud
  • Now log in to your iCloud account into window machine.
  • Drag emails from iCloud to Windows Outlook.

Step 1. Create a Gmail account and Login the account.

  • Click the Gear icon from the top right corner.



  • Click down the Settings button.

Step 2. Add Gmail IMAP mail account to Mac Outlook 2011

  • Open the Mac Outlook > Click on Menu > Tools > Accounts.
  • Click on Email. Now enter an email address, password and other information. Click on Add Account.
  • Once the above step completed. Check the IMAP mail account.

Step 3. Create a Label in Gmail

  • Open your Gmail account. Click the Gear icon > Settings button.



  • Click on the Labels.



  • Now hit on Create New Label. Also, make sure Show in IMAP box is checked.



  • After all the above steps, go to your Mac Outlook 2011 and click on Send/Receive.

Step 4. Transfer emails from Mac Outlook to Gmail IMAP mailbox

  • Open Outlook for Mac > Right click on mailbox or particular mail which user want to move to Windows Outlook.
  • Type the name of IMAP folder and hit on Copy.
  • Refresh the Gmail account to update mailbox. Do this process, after completion of the above process.
  • Now all the transferred mail items will be synchronized to IMAP mailbox folder
